Do You Need a Gas Booster?

Common Gas Pressure Problems
a Booster Solves

If any of these situations sound familiar, a gas booster is likely the fastest and most cost-effective solution. ICA engineers can confirm over a quick phone call.

Low Utility Gas Pressure
The utility's guaranteed service pressure is lower than what your boilers, water heaters, or kitchen equipment require. Equipment fires at reduced capacity or locks out on low gas pressure. A gas booster raises inlet pressure to restore full-rated operation.
Undersized Gas Piping
Your facility's gas distribution piping is too long or too small — creating excessive pressure drop that starves downstream equipment. A gas booster installed at the point of use restores full capacity without re-piping the entire building.
Peak Demand Pressure Drop
Gas pressure is adequate most of the time but drops during peak demand — when all equipment fires simultaneously. A gas booster maintains consistent pressure during high-load periods so every appliance operates at rated capacity.
Equipment Requiring Higher Pressure
New equipment specified at higher inlet pressures than the existing gas supply can deliver. Rather than requesting a utility service upgrade (which can take months and cost tens of thousands), a gas booster solves the problem immediately.
Eclipse Series HB

The Industry Standard
in Gas Boosting

ICA supplies Eclipse Series HB Hermetic Gas Boosters — the professional standard for gas pressure boosting in commercial and industrial applications for over 80 years. Eclipse's hermetic design completely encloses the motor and rotor in an airtight steel housing, eliminating the shaft seal that is the most common failure point in conventional gas boosters.

On natural gas, the Series HB provides pressure boosts from 6 to 38 inches of water column with flows up to 100,000 CFH. UL listed for natural and manufactured gas. Optional epoxy coating protects against corrosive compounds in biogas applications.

The centrifugal rotor features flat radial blades that resist dirt and particle accumulation. The motor and rotor assembly can be removed for service without disturbing any gas piping connections — minimizing downtime during maintenance.

Applications

Where Gas Boosters
Are Installed

Gas boosters serve any facility where the incoming gas pressure is insufficient for the installed equipment. These are the most common applications we size and ship boosters for nationwide.

Commercial HVAC
Office buildings, hotels, and commercial facilities where utility gas pressure is insufficient for boiler plant requirements. The most common gas booster application nationwide.
Hospitals & Healthcare
Critical facilities that cannot tolerate heating interruptions. Gas boosters ensure boilers and domestic hot water systems operate at full capacity regardless of utility pressure fluctuations.
Restaurants & Commercial Kitchens
High-demand cooking equipment that requires elevated gas pressure. Gas boosters restore full burner output when utility supply pressure drops during peak periods.
Industrial & Manufacturing
Process heating, injection molding, plasma/laser cutting shield gas, and industrial burner applications requiring consistent elevated gas pressure for production continuity.
Biogas & Cogeneration
Landfill gas, digester gas, and wastewater treatment biogas collected at very low pressures. Gas boosters raise alternative fuels to usable pressures for burners and engines.
Standby & Curtailment
Facilities with interruptible gas contracts need backup fuel delivery. Gas boosters deliver propane-air mixtures during curtailment events, preventing costly downtime.

Why Buy From ICA Heating

Gas Booster Experts
Who Ship Nationwide

Most gas booster suppliers are just box-movers — they take your order and ship a unit. ICA Heating is different. We've been engineering gas-fired heating systems since 1974. We understand combustion, gas piping, building codes, and the equipment your booster feeds. When you call ICA, you talk to engineers who solve gas pressure problems every day.

Whether your facility is in New Jersey, Texas, California, or anywhere in between — ICA provides the same engineering expertise, equipment selection support, and technical documentation. We ship directly to your job site with detailed installation guidance.

50 Years of Gas Expertise
ICA has been engineering gas-fired heating systems since 1974. We don't just sell gas boosters — we understand the combustion systems they feed, the gas piping they connect to, and the building codes they must satisfy.
Engineering & Selection
Tell us your gas supply pressure, required outlet pressure, flow rate, and gas type — we'll select and size the right booster. No guesswork, no oversizing, no undersizing. We provide documentation for your mechanical engineer or code official.
Nationwide Shipping
ICA ships gas boosters directly to your facility anywhere in the United States. Whether you're in New York, Texas, California, or anywhere in between — we deliver the equipment and provide remote engineering support.
Startup Support & Service
For facilities in the Northeast, ICA provides on-site installation, startup, and commissioning. For nationwide customers, we provide detailed installation guidance, remote startup support, and ongoing technical assistance.
Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About
Gas Boosters

What is a gas booster and when do I need one?
A gas booster is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of natural gas above what the utility provides. You need one when your incoming gas pressure is lower than what your equipment requires — common signs include boilers firing at reduced capacity, low gas pressure lockouts, inability to fire all equipment simultaneously, or new equipment requiring higher inlet pressure than available.
Do you ship gas boosters nationwide?
Yes. ICA Heating ships Eclipse hermetic gas boosters to facilities in all 50 states. We provide engineering support to help you select the right booster for your application, and ship directly to your job site. For installations in the Northeast, we also offer on-site startup and commissioning services.
What size gas booster do I need?
Gas booster sizing depends on three factors: the available inlet pressure from your utility, the required outlet pressure for your equipment, and the total gas flow rate (CFH) your system demands. Contact ICA with these three numbers and we'll recommend the correct Eclipse model — no charge for sizing assistance.
What is a hermetic gas booster?
A hermetic gas booster uses an airtight steel housing that completely encloses the motor and rotor, eliminating the shaft seal. Shaft seals are the most common failure point in conventional gas boosters — they wear out, leak, and require replacement. Eclipse's hermetic design removes this failure mode entirely, resulting in significantly longer service life and lower maintenance costs.
Can a gas booster be used with biogas or alternative fuels?
Yes. Eclipse gas boosters are UL listed for natural and manufactured gas, and are widely used with biogas from landfills and wastewater treatment plants. An optional epoxy coating on all internal surfaces provides protection against the corrosive compounds commonly found in biogas, landfill gas, and sour gas mixtures.
How much does a gas booster cost?
Gas booster pricing depends on the model size, flow capacity, and any options (such as epoxy coating for corrosive gas). Contact ICA for a free quote — we'll size the booster for your application and provide pricing with shipping included. Call (800) 994-6164 or submit a quote request online.
Do I need a permit to install a gas booster?
Most jurisdictions require a gas piping permit and inspection for gas booster installations. Requirements vary by state, county, and municipality. ICA can provide technical documentation, spec sheets, and UL listing information to support your permit application. For installations in the Northeast, our team handles the entire permitting process.
How long do Eclipse gas boosters last?
Eclipse has been manufacturing gas boosters for over 80 years. The hermetic design eliminates the shaft seal — the most common wear component in conventional boosters — enabling decades of reliable service with minimal maintenance. Many Eclipse installations are still operating after 20-30+ years.
